Williams Mug Shaving Soap is a tallow based shaving soap, and is one of the oldest shaving soaps still in production. It is also one of the best selling shaving soaps in the USA today.
The formula for the Williams Mug Shaving Soap was created in the 1840's by James B. Williams of Glastonbury, Connecticut, USA. At that time the soap was called "Williams Genuine Yankee Soap" and it was the first shaving soap that was ment to be used in a shaving mug. Williams also produced a shaving stick for many years, before it was discontinued. After the JB Williams company was sold to Pharmaceuticals Inc, 10 of the original plants workers stayed behind as they wanted to preserve the old way of creating the soap. This new company was called Glastonbury Toiletries, and they produced a lot of different kinds of soaps. They also had a contract with Williams, but as the Williams brand was sold to Nabisco in 1971, Glastonbury Toiletries had to shut down in 1977. Williams Mug Shaving Soap still lives on, and is still used in the same ways at it was ment to be. More
